Traffic comes First – Not Sales

A rule one should always remember when they are jumping into the difficult world of internet marketing is that traffic must come first not money. Meaning don’t expect to make money in the first few weeks or months of any online marketing venture. Stay focus on what your primary goal should be; and that should be traffic generation.

Many people complain that once they started a new site or blog and that even though they have monetized there site they haven’t made any money. I always like to provide a bold answer for such a statement – “YOUR NOT SUPPOSE TO MAKE ANY MONEY IN THE BEGINNING”. If it really was that easy people would be starting online businesses and building websites every day. The truth is an online business is just like any other business and it takes a lot of hard work to get it off the ground. One of the primary things that no business would be without is a strong advertising department. If your site isn’t making any money then it is entirely possible that your advertising department isn’t as strong as you think.

You’re probably thinking I don’t have an advertising department and I don’t either, but I know that I still have to advertise my businesses and websites if I want to make any money.

When I say traffic comes first I’m stating that you should focus all your time and attention at least in the beginning on bringing in traffic and not in trying to tailor your monetizing techniques.

In fact I would say don’t monetize your site until you have reached a steady flow of traffic. That way your disappointment of not making and money won’t detour you from continuing on your path to success.

Writing One Quality Article versus A Hundred Junk Articles

Let me just start off by saying you all know what a junk article is, so please don’t ask me that question. In fact my explanation of a junk article may differ slightly from many people’s opinion of a junk article. Truth be told they are sorta a constant in the online marketing world. If you’re not writing them, then you probably are reading them. Internet Marketing is a world of highly spun very low quality virtually unreadable junk articles. I will stop; just don’t write crappy articles, that makes it simple. Write a very good one and see if you can get a high traffic blog to publish it for you.

I found out a long time ago that writing and spinning hundreds of low quality articles can provide some success for your online business or website. There you heard me say it; it is possible to reach some sorta success by sticking with the old fashion spin routine. If you stick with it eventually you should see some success from all your hard work and who knows sometimes you get really lucky and hit the jackpot of search engine rankings, but it is rare especially for newbie’s.

Shhhhhhhh, here’s one of my little secrets… what I like to do is take about 1-2 hours and write a totally assume article. I mean and article that totally rocks, you know what I mean. I always try and top out at about 700-800 words I then take that article and create 4 spun versions, leaving me with a total of 5 articles. Here is the cool part I don’t use a automated article submitter, I don’t use Ezarticles, I don’t leave them on my computer to collect dust. I take my 5 articles and I find 5 high quality blogs in my niche or what I like to call my “niche next door neighbor”.

Example of a Niche Next Door Neighbor

My niche might be dog collars,

My Niche Next Door Neighbor might be into dog beds, or maybe he is a trainer, but I am sure he or she wouldn’t mind a free well written article on dog collars, it might get ranked in the search engines for them which will in return get them more traffic and eventually you more traffic.

Listen to me when I tell you, I don’t go out looking for blogs that are bringing in 20,000 unique visitors a month. NO, NO, NO, I find blogs that seem to be just maintaining 100 -200 subscribers. Maybe a few hundred visitors a day, I then contact these bloggers directly and I tell them that I am a fellow blogger and I am in need of their help. I tell them that I have provided a link to their site in my sidebar of my blog, but that I was wondering if they wouldn’t mind publishing this article on their site. I would tell this blog owner that I’m looking for more traffic for my site and that some of his or her readers might be interested in my blog. I’m honest so he knows my intentions, then I offer to help further, by adding an extra incentive. I sweeten the deal by offering to tweet all the blogs new posts for a week.

The idea is to show that you are willing to give a little in order to get a little. If you do this five times you should have at least 2-3 bits within the next day or so depending on how active the blogs are. There is nothing wrong with asking for help with traffic, especially when you need and want it.

I learned more recently that one high quality article published on a high traffic blog is more effect then a hundred floating around somewhere on different content farm.

Asking for Traffic is Not a Bad Idea

It least this is what I believe; many internet marketers out there are all trying so hard to succeed online. So many in fact that one could say it is overcrowded. That’s why I say use that to your advantage, instead of trying to go it alone as many do. You might try partnering up with someone who is trying to do the same thing as you. As long as you’re sincere and you’re willing to work together you will find that you have a better chance at succeeding in a team than someone does going it alone.

Asking for Traffic isn’t Lazy it’s Smart

Maybe you want to start your own blog, maybe it’s in a holiday niche. I choose a holiday niche b/c it’s currently around the holiday’s now and it’s not dog training, LOL.

Back to it, let’s say you want to start a brand new blog within the holiday niche. Once you build the blog you start to notice how hard it is to get traffic. One great way to get off the ground is to go to another semi-start up blog. Maybe even a more popular one, one that has been around for a few months, maybe even a year. Once you have found your blog, start by commenting on that blog, comment steadily for 2 weeks. Real powerful comments, stuff that will make the blog owner notice you. Then simply contact the blogger directly and ask for his or her help:

Example

Hi,

My name is ______ and I’m not sure you’ve noticed, but I have been actively following your blog for a few weeks now I was wondering if you have had the chance to visit my blog. I would really appreciate it if you could drop by and comment. Anyway I have been very interested in what you are saying these past weeks and was wondering if you could do me a favor and help me direct some traffic towards my site. It’s a little new, but I think it shows some promise. Anything you could do would be appreciated; I would be greatly honored even if you could allow me to do a quick quest post on your blog, I can assure you that the post with be high quality and written by me.

Of course it doesn’t have to be written word for word like my example above, but you get the idea. You can even spread it out a little more, let the blogger comment on your blog first. Maybe you could do a post about their blog first. The idea is to show that your active and you have given them something, that you want them to resipicate back.

Some would say this is direct and wouldn’t work, but then you can ask those people “Why”. If you actively comment on a blog, and also own a quality blog then why not be direct and ask for some help. The worst that can happen is that they say no. If that happen’s just move on to the next one, all you lose is a little time. In fact I would advise you to try this with several blogs at a time. In the end at least you get a whole bunch of backlinks from the blog comments that might even provide you with some referral traffic.

Some will spend hour’s writing junk articles so they can spin and submit to content farms that wouldn’t provide nearly as much traffic as a guest post on one high traffic blog. That’s what I call being smart!

The goal here it to have a high traffic blog help you promote your own blog and by offer something and asking nicely you might be surprised at how many bloggers will help you out.

This will be my backoffice for my writers and marketers. So they know what they have to do and how to do it without all the hassle of consistently messaging me back and fourth. As you can see it’s a working process and only a few have seen this blog at the time of this post. That will soon change!

I have always operated my blog network in my mind and on the desktop of my computer. This will be the first time I have changed that strategy I am going to be taking it one step at a time so bear with me.
